For the Fight Club fans

Fight Club is a firm favourite of mine but I only recently got around to reading the book by Chuck Palahniuk. Even though the book is really good I think this might be the one example of the movie being better than the book (feel free to mention it if you can think of any other examples).

The first bit reads like the movie’s script, but the book has its own tone and pace. What makes the book slightly terrifying is that the characters seem way more real than in the movie. The protagonist sounds like a plain waiter just defiling food and even Tyler seems like a regular psychopath. The movie somehow makes it a little more glamourous to get beat up and splice porn into Disney movies.

Here are five differences that caught my eye, that don’t reveal any spoilers, but stand out. They are:

1.

Helena Bonham carter and Edward Norton in Fight Club feeling for a lump in her breast

Marla, played by Helena Bonham Carter, finds two lumps in her breast and then starts going to Remaining Men Together for men with testicular cancer. This might not have been the right group to go to, but she was still less of a faker than our friend the narrator.

2.

Chloe from fight club

I don’t know why they made that change. The actress Rachel Singer, who plays Chloe, does look more like Joni Mitchell to me. Maybe Mitchell is for book people what Meryl is for movie people.

3.

Edward Norton in Fight club. Looking angry with his phone

Edward Norton’s character is really creepy in the book, just saying.

4.

Bob or Robert Paulson, brilliantly portrayed by Meat Loaf, has blonde hair in the book. I can't imagine Meat Loaf looking pretty in blonde though so its better that way in the movie.

5.

Marla and Tyler watch the bombs to where is my mind from the pixies

Read the book and tell me which ending you prefer. I’m going with The Pixies and the explosions.

PS: Merry Christmas! 🙂 xxx
